The Mothership

The Mothership, Figure & Portrait
The Mothership
The Mothership symbolizes the many travels that the slaves took through the middle passage. Across treacherous waters of the Atlantic to the Americas, various islands and the world. We were a very valuable commodity that was treated less than human. In the water you will find the money dating back to the 1800's, where there were still splits in our country and the money system. Many Africans and ships never reached their destinations do to accidents, wrecks, mis-guided directions and deaths. Ships and vessels are related to women because they are carriers. The woman's hand rest softly on her chin to invoke her strength of keeping her head uplifted in times of distress. The sea rages, the skies darken, and the future of these stolen people are unknown. Still they are strong, and they rise out of their a unforetold demise. Centuries later they will not compromise, you can see the hope and grace in her eyes.
