This painting is a scene from withIn the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa First Nation in British Columbia, Canada. It depicts the southern slopes of the Steeples Range in the Rocky Mountains and the Kootenay River flowing south, just north of the British Columbia/Montana border. A couple of Ktunaxa teepees are located on the bank of the river and a Ktunaxa paddler is approaching in a sturgeon-nosed canoe, the traditional style of canoe constructed by the Ktunaxa.
