Abandoned to Sunset

Abandoned to Sunset, Plein Air Work ONLY
Abandoned to Sunset
This large Plein Air painting was created over the course of five evenings. I was initially captivated by how the farm seemed to tumble down the hillside. However, once I got my barrings and realized how the setting sun would illuminate the farmstead, I decided to organize everything around my anticipation of the evening light.

Between the size of the canvas and my proximity to the road, I was easy to spot. For the next four evenings, I was a roadside attraction. I was lucky enough to have people make me a part of their evening. One family of four came by on their pre-bedtime ATV ride, as the kids wanted to see the "painter man." Other people wanted to share their piece of the story about the abandoned place. Whatever the topic, all conversations started with this painting, the light, and that farm.
