Oil on canvas. “Lehi’s Vision” is a piece inspired by a story from the Book of Mormon. In this piece, I illustrate the story of the tree of life, which is a strong symbol that’s remained with me, being raised LDS. In the story, a great and spacious building next to the tree represents the temptations of the world, and a rod of iron runs across the dark landscape up to the tree, serving as a guide to those who stay true to their course. This story has meant a lot to me growing up. The tree of life serves as a metaphor for the word of God, but to me, it can symbolize other things as well, such as love and happiness. I’m interested in the ways that others interpret this piece without knowing the story/faith.
