This one of my favorite motifs- a landscape with old farmhouse and barn overlooking Seneca Lake near Watkins Glen, NY. I've painted this scene for many years, different media, seasons, angles and light. This is my most recent one, a large-scale oil with the dramatic crepuscular light emerging from behind clouds after a rain. As it depicts the summer solstice, with the light at its most prolonged, along with the spiritual significance of the day, it all combined to make the work special for me. The light glinting on the lake and in shadow foreground all appealed to me along with the distant sfumato.
