Ruby Beach, located on the western side of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, is a pristine Pacific Northwest beach facing the Pacific whose forceful waves have shaped the natural terrain and led to the formation of monumental sea stacks. I was lucky enough to witness a spectacular sunset there, watching as the scene before me changed minute by minute and was entirely different depending on which direction I looked. One of a series of paintings from that night, this one captures the setting sun in a dramatic Contre-jour position where the sea stacks are positioned directly against the sun.
