This is a studio painting completed using reference paintings from a day of Plein air painting in the Flint Hills of Kansas. The autumn color was just breath taking and the sunlight cast a beautiful glow on the prairie. Light is what attracts me to a scene, and I never tire of painting similar scenes and now that I live in Indiana I still go back to my reference photos and paintings and knock out another Flint Hills painting a couple times a year.
